ON THIS DAY: GMA Network begins broadcasting their FTA and International Channels on Widescreen2/27/2024 It was on February 27, 2023 when GMA Network has officially switching it's broadcast from the older 4:3 Aspect Ratio into 16:9 format, otherwise known as Widescreen. Despite it's big switch on their transmission, it is still on 4:3 on their broadcast output because these was widely known as "Anamorphic Widescreen Format".
This big switch from GMA Network, was applied not just on GMA, but also it's sister channel, GTV, it's digital subchannels (HEART OF ASIA, I HEART MOVIES, HALLYPOP and PINOY HITS), GMA's International Channels (GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International) and GMA Regional TV. It's first-ever TV Series of the network being broadcast since it's transition to widescreen on-air was Mga Lihim ni Urduja, which was premiered the same day as it is. PHCA-2024H1-3696/February 27, 2024. We have just seen a teaser on GMA stating that The Voice Kids PH is soon to happen, this time on the Kapuso Network.
It's previous edition of The Voice Kids was premiered on February 25, 2023 on the ABS-CBN Network, in which the season named Shane Bernabe as the grand winner of the competition at the time that the show has aired it's live finals. It's previous The Voice Franchise-based edition aired on GMA was The Voice Generations, which was premiered on August 27, 2023, in which the season named Vocalmyx was named the grand winner of the competition's finals. PHCA CID PHCA-2024H1-3492/February 23, 2024 We have heard the news recently, February 22, 2024, that ABS-CBN and PLDT will not continue the acquisition of PLDT and SKY, which has been signed by and among these two companies on March the last year and has been approved by the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) last January 22, 2024, amounting for P6.75 Billion.
As a result of this decision from ABS-CBN and PLDT, SKY Cable Corporation has just announced that their Pay TV Service, SKYcable (and it's business counterpart, SKYBIZ), will continue to operate even after the supposed shutdown date of February 26, 2024 at 23h59. Aside from SKYcable and SKYBIZ, SKY Fiber and SKYBIZ Broadband and will continue to provide internet service to it's subscribers (including bundled ones) as usual. You will be able to continue enjoying several Pay TV Channels that SKYcable has promised as usual, including those from the Kapamilya Network's own Pay TV Channels, i.e. Kapamilya Channel in SD and HD, ANC in SD and HD, Teleradyo Serbisyo, Myx, Cinema One, Knowledge Channel, Metro Channel in SD and HD, Cinemo! and Jeepney TV. If you are a SKYcable or SKYBIZ Subscriber, your subscribed plan before January 26, 2024 will resume on March 16, 2024. Billing shall also continue on that date. You are not required to pay for that for the period of January 26, 2024 to March 15, 2024. If you have switched to an another pay TV provider from SKYcable (especially you have switched to Digital Terrestrial Television) prior to this announcement, you must inform SKY to stop this on or before March 16, 2024, by sending them a message through their own live online support chat, KYLA. It was on February 6, 2024 when Manila Broadcasting Company, one of the pioneer AM and FM Radio Networks in the country today that was known for it's flagship DZRH Radio in the AM Band, Love Radio, Yes FM and Easy Rock in the FM Band, it's Regional AM Radio Network, Aksyon Radyo, and their own Community FM Radio Service, Radyo Natin was renamed to MBC Media Group with a new logo. This rebranding was unveiled on their last night's trade event.
In addition, as what their trade event has mentioned yesterday, MBC Media Group's own news channel, DZRH TV, which is available on several Pay TV Providers (including Cignal, Cablelink and GSat) and on Digital Free TV in Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo, as well as on the Internet via live streaming on YouTube, is set to broadcast this channel in Mega Manila and in key cities nationwide. Aside from Radio and TV, MBC Media Group has also their other platforms and services of the media group, such as MBC Promos for marketing and advertising their brands through promo campaigns, social media contests, games and raffles, MBC Digital for online marketing in a form of media, MBC Events and MBC Talents. It was on February 1, 2024 at 6h00 when RPTV began broadcasting on TV5 and RPN DTT Services, on channel 5.2 (SD, RF 18 and 51 in Mega Manila) and 19.2 (HD, RF 19 in Mega Manila), when CNN Philippines ends it's broadcasts on the preceeding day at 22h00.
RPTV, with it's slogan, "Para Sa Pinoy!" boasts of TV Shows backed by TV5 and OnePH. During it's initial launch of the channel on February 1, 2024, the channel broadcasts several programs on OnePH and TV5, such as Ted Failon at DJ Chacha sa Radyo5 True FM, Gud Morning Kapatid, E.A.T./Eat Bulaga!, Wanted sa Radyo, and several TV5 Shows of the past (as also seen on BuKo Channel via Cignal TV), such as Tropa Mo Ko Unli and Balita One Nan. It does also broadcast several basketball tournaments provided by PBA for it's 48th season. Aside from DTV Channels 5.2 and 19.2 on DTV RF 18, 51 (SD Feed) and 19 (HD Feed), it is also available on several Pay TV Operators that carries the RPN 9's signal, such as Cignal (Channel 10), SatLite (Channel 9), GSat (Channel 8), SKYcable* (Channel 14), Cablelink (Channel 14), and among others**. It is also available for Livestreaming via CignalPlay (registered users only, you can find them under "Free Zone" to find the channel). *RPTV is still also available to all SKYcable Subscribers. Following the CNN Philippines' Closure yesterday, it was now renamed to RPTV, being available on TV5 and RPN's DTT Services, as recently launched at around 6h00. RPTV boasts of TV Shows backed by TV5 and OnePH, particularly TVJ Productions-led E.A.T. and Radyo5's own radio shows, Ted Failon at DJ Chacha sa Radyo5 and Wanted sa Radyo. In Mega Manila and other areas where TV5's DTV Services are available (via DTV RF 18 and 51 in Mega Manila), you can find that channel on Channel 5.2, in which it has been previously assigned to OnePH. It's High Definition feed is also available to RPN's DTV Servies (via DTV RF 19 in Mega Manila), on channel 19.2. In order to get this DTV channel, you'll need to do a channel scan on any of your digital TV box. If your DTV Device or TV does have a "SCAN" button, just press that button and confirm. Wait for a few minutes to rescan all of the channels until it finishes. We have recently received a word from CNN Philippines that their operations on both on-air and media operations within the effect of January 31, 2024 due to their financial issues on the use of the "CNN" Brand, as well as the discontinuation of it's news and production operations on the said date.
CNN Philippines was launched in March 16, 2015. It's been almost nine years from the time that this CNN-branded PHTV Channel was firstly broadcast on several TV Stations of RPN and several pay TV operators. Thank you, CNN Philippines, for the memories. Have some trivia: Did you know that last December 2021, one of our polticial TV ad videos on DRPS One Channel was featured on CNN Philippines' News Night? Indeed, it was for a Political Advertisement of Bongbong Marcos, which has been seen under the news headline, "Strategizing an Election Campaign". PHCA-2024H1-2404/January 29, 2024. LOOK: PLDT completes it's acquisition of SKY, SKYcable, to end their CATV services by February 271/27/2024 It was on January 22, 2024 when the country's largest telecommunitcations company, #PLDT, completes it's acquisition of ABS-CBN's own Pay TV and Internet Service Arm, SKY Cable Corporation (known as #SKY). This acquisition amount costs over P6.75 billion upon the approval by the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC). As a result, on yesterday, January 26, 2024, Sky Cable's own Cable TV Product, #SKYcable, which was known as "The Biggest Show On Air" in the past, will cease to exist by February 27, 2024. For SKY Fiber, one of their FIber Internet Service Providers of the company will continue to exist, making SKY Cable will be the only Internet Service Provider of the country, where their internet service and coverage area is available. This Cable TV Service ran for about 34 years, since it's birth in 1990. Who is SKYcable?In the past, SKYcable was known for their high-quality Cable TV Service available in the market, making their 2000s slogan of it was "The Biggest Show On Air". When SKYcable's own Digital Television services was introduced in 2006, they offered their own Channel Add-on service, widely known as SKYcable Select (introduced in 2008), in which the subscribers of the said Pay TV Provider can add more channels on top of the original channel lineup. In 2009, the company began offering HDTV Cable Services. It's Satellite Pay TV Service, SKY Direct, was introduced in 2016, but four years later, it was shut down in 2020 due to the ACDO order as issued by the NTC (alongside with the ABS-CBN TVplus Services). For their Internet Service, SKY Fiber, it was previously known as ZPDEE Cable Internet, then later rebranded as "SKY Broadband" in 2008. What's going on with SKYcable and SKY Fiber's operations?With the acquisition of SKYcable from PLDT, all of the SKYcable Subscribers will be affected, but for SKY Fiber users, it will continue to operate. Bundled subscribers of SKY (i.e. bundled subscription of SKYcable and SKY Fiber) will be automatically moving to SKY Fiber only internet service, depending on your plan you already have. Alternatively for bundled subscribers of SKY can choose their SKY Fiber Plan they would want to prefer. For SKYcable only subscribers, it will stop their operations on their Digital Cable services by February 27, 2024. After this date, you will no longer be able to view their cable TV Channels available on it, and you may need to switch to an another Pay TV Provider, i.e. Cignal, GSat, Cablelink, and etc. (especially during the Free Viewing period from January 26 until it shuts down their cable TV services), or alternatively, Free Digital TV. For Cignal (including SatLite) and GSat TV, they also offer prepaid services for you to be able to watch Pay TV, while also for Cignal and Cablelink, do also offer postpaid pay TV services. Postpaid Subscribers can also Switch to Cignal Postpaid as well. If you are a Converge Subscriber, you may also switch your SKYcable service to Converge's own Pay TV Service, the Converge Vision, which is available as an add on to all of the subscribers of Converge FiberX Fiber Internet Service. Plans start at P99/month, and is only available in select areas. Alternatively, you can also subscribe to an another pay TV provider available in your region, besides Cignal and GSat, or if you are planning to cut the cord and your cable TV bill, you can do so by purchasing and installing a Digital Terrestrial Set Top Box (or even a DTV-enabled TV Set with an ISDB-T Digital Tuner), as well as an antenna to be able to receive the Digital Television Broadcast Signal.
